More than half of Canadian businesses claims are rising in revenues and 44 per cent of them report healthy profit growth, according to the latest edition of the Regus Business Confidence Index. The Business Confidence Index bases its findings on the opinion of more than 17,000 companies worldwide and, judging from its results, it seems that we are experiencing a global wave of confidence and optimism, with the index at an all-time record high of 125 points.

The optimism of the businesses themselves at last corresponds to actual economic results. Business confidence has seen a constant surge since 2010; however, now, it is matched by official reports, showing that revenues and profits are up, as expected by entrepreneurs in last year’s Index.

Regus Regional Vice President Wes Lenci commented on the report’s findings: “The return of business confidence is great news. The fact that is reinforced by so many companies reporting rising revenues and profit supports claims that an overall economic recovery is afoot.”

The figures also reveal that departmental spending is increasing. Even though the trend is likely to last into next year, properties are not included because companies maintain strict cost control policies. 81 per cent of businesses announced plans to minimize their property spending as the process of shifting away from traditional workplaces continues. Such caution toward real estate spending shows a new aspect of companies’ behaviour: just a few years ago, property spending boomed any time there was a sign of economic upturn, while now, companies reduce risks and always go for more scalable arrangements to ensure future profits.
