Something about the winter in Toronto leaves me in a perpetual state of cold, with an unquenchable thirst for warm drinks like hot chocolate, coffee, and warm apple cider. While preferences for coffee styles range from individual to individual, finding a safe haven on a cold, stormy day is something that appeals to everyone! Of course, I am always on the lookout for a nook-and-cranny in downtown Toronto that can boast good food and a great atmosphere. Urbana Coffee is the place to be!

The considerable seating capacity and size of Urbana is a strong selling point. This lovely coffee shop offers a place to not only enjoy coffee, but also socialize with others. I strongly recommend Urbana as a place to sit and spend time with friends, since its comfortable atmosphere is an endearing far cry from “fast-lane, take-out” style cafes. With its spacious interior and abundance of seating, Urbana offers the perfect atmosphere for engaging in quiet discussion and cultivating philosophical thought.

Urbana’s loyal customers cite their large, fresh muffins, empanadas and beef paddies, and crème brûlée lattes as the café menu’s strong points. One customer even mentioned that she wanted a Bombay Fog (a chai tea misto which wasn’t on the menu at the
time), and the baristas at Urbana happily made it for her upon her description. That’s another feature that makes Urbana really stand out: its good customer service.

I particularly enjoyed my white hot chocolate; it was rich and delicious, although a bit pricey. The menu is plentiful, with something unique and delicious to cater to the diverse tastes of all coffee lovers.

At the time of my visit, Urbana Coffee offered free internet access (which was perfect because the café is peppered with plugs for your laptop!) and plenty of seating. Unfortunately, the internet is now password protected and requires a $20 Urbana discount card in order to be accessed. You have only to purchase the card once, and then you can use the internet anytime.

I recommend Urbana Coffee to anyone thirsting to try something new or seeking a great, comfortable place to relax and enjoy the company of friends.
