Fashion Week 2011

From Monday to Friday last week, the city of Toronto witnessed a couple of days full of fashion and the newest designs at the 25th anniversary season of the Toronto Fashion Week. More than 40 shining designer stars from around the world gathered to share ideas and see what the newest trends bring in the glamorous and electric atmosphere of the fashion event of the year in Toronto.
Getting over the hurdle
This year’s Fashion Week took a brand new residence in the temporary tents at David Pecaut Square, one of the most chic areas in the city, offering guests magnificent opportunities for after-show parties in numerous patio venues in the neighbourhood.

As usual, the organizers were trying to bring the event even closer to perfection and prepared a couple of new extras for visitors. For example, the LG Fashion Week Survival Guide was created for the observers, including several more or less practical tips that may help with getting the most out of the visit. (Okay, maybe it’s not absolutely necessary to remind us of keeping a hydration regime…)
However, the most interesting part was most certainly the recommendations about what some of the designers like to listen on their ipods — e.g. Shawn at Bustle can listen to Fleetwood Mac over and over, Amanda Lew Kee enjoys Separator by Radiohead, while Micalla Studio prefers Back to Black by Amy Winehouse and Ken’s Krane wouldn’t be the same without Hold my Breath by Holy Ghost.

As for the newest trends for Spring 2012, it isn’t easy to choose the main highlights since the designers showed an incredible degree of innovation and diversity in their works. However, those exciting four days full of fashion gave a slight hint on what may be hanging in our closets in a few months’ time.
1. Geeks rule!
First of all, geek style with its thick-rimmed glasses and a bit of rebellion is definitely not about to be abandoned and seems likely to rule our casual wear in the near future, as shown by Ken Chow’s Krane label.

2. Black and white
The classic that never dies! This combination of opposites always looks classy and a bit cheeky at the same time, and it’s up to everyone to interpret it through his own personality.
3. Full, high-waisted skirts
Check out Pink Tartan’s effortless chic light dresses and skirts reminiscent of the ’60s and start exercising to get your belly ready for this merciless dictate of style!
4. Floral motives
Not too wearable designs by Lucian Matis hinted on a fresh and lively trend of that naturally belongs to Spring – embrace the flowers and keep your clothes full of vibrant colours.
