Before we get into the full swing of the holidays in December, here are a couple of great events to check out before November bows out.
Getting over the hurdle
European Union Film Festival

Europe Uni Film festival
What is it?
A showcase of 22 films from 21 EU countries, all for free. You read that right: free admission to feature-length, award-winning European films. Tickets are first come, first served, and are available starting from one hour before a movie’s screening time. Get there early because the lineup builds very quickly.
When is it?
From now until November 30. Showtimes are listed at the official site.
Where is it?
The Royal Cinema, 608 College St. W., west of Bathurst St.
So what?
Free screenings of recent and acclaimed European films, many of which have their first and only Toronto screening in this festival. For anyone who enjoys foreign films, languages, and cultures, there’s really no reason not to attend.
Cavalcade of Lights 2010
What is it?
A gorgeous display of fireworks; Christmas tree lighting; performances by Shawn Desman; Divine Brown and Sarah Slean; a skating party at the rink located in the Square. And it’s all for free.
When is it?
Saturday, November 27, at 7p.m.
Where is it?
Nathan Phillips Square, 100 Queen St. W., at the intersection of Queen St. W. and Bay St.
So what?
Everybody loves fireworks, especially when there’s no admission price. Add in musical performances and a jolly festive atmosphere with fellow Torontonians, and you have a can’t-miss event.
