Trivia Night at the Drake

Although an evening out often relies on the quality of the company you keep, you can always inject a little more fun into an evening if you’re eating out somewhere with a special theme. Trivia Night at the Drake Hotel is a great example of how you can have a little more fun with your night out.

Every Wednesday at 8 PM (though it occasionally starts a bit late) the lounge area of the Drake Hotel features a night of trivia, featuring a wide array of general knowledge and music questions. The thirty general knowledge questions spread over three rounds can range from pop culture to history and anywhere in-between, while the music questions feature the opening five to ten seconds of a song you’ll need to identify the title and artist of. If you’re lucky enough to win the evening, you’ll get the prize of an eighty dollar gift, perfect to cover the tab and a couple of drinks on top of that.

While the competition can be a little more challenging than you might expect, the low two dollar entry fee eases any investment worries, not to mention you can enjoy the Drake’s fantastic (albeit pricey) food while playing the game. Teams have a size limit of four players, but with space being so limited, it’s not really an affair for large parties, unless you’d enjoy dirty looks from other teams, of course.

The game usually runs for an hour to an hour and a half, and there’s usually a very lighthearted atmosphere. You might see a few familiar faces if you happen to go more than once, but it’s very casual without fixed teams or league rules. It’s entirely an effort to infuse a little bit of extra fun to a great night out.

The questions do tend to skew towards people in their late twenties or early thirties, but in general they’re quite fair and test a wide range of knowledge. You might even find yourself learning the 1930s logo for Canon, or where the term ‘Ritz’ originated. Although the knowledge is definitively trivial, you can still be sure to expect an amusing gauntlet of trivial information that makes for a great night out. Even if your team has a lousy first round, there’s still a lot of fun to be found with some alcoholic reinforcements.
