Toronto Fashion Week by Ian Muttoo
Into its 12th year, the LG Fashion Week Beauty by L’Oreal Paris will kick off its bi-annual event this Monday October 18th. Showcasing the latest trends from the Spring 2011 Collections, it seems it isn’t just the big names that everyone’s excited about.
Getting over the hurdle
Everyone seems a-buzz about The Fashion Collective, a team of three designers – Dwayne Kennedy, Kate Mullin, and Brian A. Richards – who will link the street to the runway with its take on country inspired looks for this year. Along with them are already recognized names, such as Joe Fresh and Pink Tartan to bring about a large collaboration of the old and the new on the runway.
The inspiration for this year’s collection is “Feminine Boot Camp”, which uses a softer approach to the usually subdued style. Floral patterns, shimmery gold and silvers and metallics will be featured along with military-inspired pieces to complete the look.
With over 60 presentations, fashion won’t be the only star at this year’s Fashion week. Social media and technology will be infused into the week’s event, with title sponsor LG paving the runway with “The Style of Power.” Evan Bidell will also present his collection through a multimedia lens, which will focus on custom mannequins and video pairing to show interactive content for show-goers throughout the week.
For those who can’t make it out, Fashion Week will be streamed live on their site at lgfashionalweek.ca. And if you can be there, be sure to check out the L’Oreal Paris Beauty Lounge, where they’ll be celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Elnett hairspray by offering participants makeup and hair touch-ups throughout the day.
Concluding the week is the Dare to Wear Love Show, which showcases the top 25 Canadian designers and their take on African fabric. An immense success last year, the show will donate its proceeds to the Stephen Lewis Foundation to help African communities battle AIDS.
LG Fashion Week runs from October 18th- 23rd at Heritage Court.
